15/3: Seek First His Kingdom and Righteousness

1 Kings 3:10-15

“But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right–the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.”

Solomon put God’s Kingdom ahead of himself, and God honoured him with riches and honour. Humility precedes honour and wisdom precedes riches. To handle honour well we need to have humility,  lest we become proud and take the honour for ourselves like what Saul did. To handle riches well we need to have the wisdom, lest we spend it on worthless things like the prodigal son.

I want to ask for the humility to know my strengths and weaknesses well, and to have the wisdom to discern between right and wrong and also to recognise the good and evil in myself and people so that I can shepherd people well.

Dear God, give me humility and wisdom and the heart to follow you all the days of my life.
