1 Kings 13:20-28
I realized that God warned the man of God through the old prophet before he disobeyed His commands. God again reminded the man of God before his meal that he should not eat or drink. However, against God’s warning, he went ahead and ate and drink in v23 after God’s warning against him was given. Would the man of God’s end be different should he have chosen to repent before God and obeyed Him? I believed the man of God somehow chose to listen to what he wanted to hear and not hear what God wanted to say.
God is a merciful God and will warn us in many ways just like how He warned David, Solomon, Jeroboam and now the man of God. However, He is also a just God so He cannot condone our sins when we have committed them. It reminded me of this verse that God wants us to come to repentance before Him.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9
Dear God, help me to be sensitive to your Spirit’s prompting to obey Your Word and not be distracted by what other people say when it is contradicting Your Word.
