1 Kings 15:1-8
2 Chronicles 13:1-22 gave a slightly different picture of Abijah. It talks about Abijah went to war (with 400,000 fighting men) against Jeroboam (800,000 fighting men). However, Abijah cried out to the Lord and the Lord fought the battle for them and Abijah won. After that Abijah grew in strength but his reign was only 3 years. In the passage we read today, Abijah was not fully devoted to the Lord but he had some good in him. Hence for David’s sake, God did something extraordinary by raising up a son to make Judah strong. God honours people who are faithful to him and seeks him just like David, and it affects even generations after David passed away. And God was faithful to have Jesus under the bloodline of David as well because David did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
We need to place utmost important on doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord and to follow God will all our heart. God will bless us, the people whom we lead, as well as generations that follow. It reminded me of how committed the youth ministry leaders in the past were and now I believe God is remembering them and blessing us beyond what we are doing in the ministry. Nothing done for God is ever wasted.
